CCM poll victory confirms party’s hold on rural electorate

By Prince Pierre

Civic United Front (CUF) leader Prof Ibrahim Lipumba has argued that existing constitution and lack of voter education has played a role in the opposition’s defeat in recent polls in Busanda.

CCM has maintained its winning trend after defeating three opposition parties including Chadema an immediate opponent by a significant margin. The campaign was mainly marked by fierce rivalry between CCM and Chadema.

According to the party’s Publicity Secretary Capt. John Chiligati. CCM candidate’s victory is attributable to party’s rigorous move to implement its manifesto, a trend that transforms the lives of the poor.

However, scores of analysts who were reached for comments said that voters in rural areas could easily give in due to threats and ignorance over lack of civic education, although to a certain extent people might still be trusting CCM.

Announcing to the final results by Busanda Returning Officer Mr Dan Mollel, the winner was CCM’s candidates Ms. Leonsia Bukwimba who garnered 29,242 votes against her immediate opponent Chadema’s Mr Finias Magessa who scooped 22,799 votes.

Other candidates with the names of their parties in brackets are Mr Oscar Ndalawa (CUF) and Mrs. Beatrice Lubambe (UDP) scooped 957 and 271 votes respectively.
